Malayalam Actor Minu Muneer Arrested, Released on Bail Following Defamation Claims by Balachandra Menon

Actor Minu Muneer was apprehended by the Kochi Cyber Police after a defamation charge was lodged by renowned filmmaker Balachandra Menon.

Minu Muneer, the Malayalam actor, faced arrest by the Kochi Cyber Police due to a defamation complaint from filmmaker and actor Balachandra Menon. The allegations emerged from Muneer’s social media posts, which Menon deemed defamatory. She was quickly granted bail following her detention.

Balachandra Menon filed a complaint of defamation against Minu Muneer.

Details of the Arrest and Release

The Kerala High Court had previously denied her anticipatory bail request. Muneer is identified as the primary accused in a case registered in 2024, stemming from multiple derogatory posts she allegedly made about Menon. In contrast, Muneer herself had lodged a complaint against actor and MLA M Mukesh, who is affiliated with CPI(M). This arrest adds to a contentious backdrop within the Malayalam film industry.

Accusations of Sexual Misconduct

Following various posts on social media platforms, Muneer has openly accused several prominent personalities in the industry of sexual harassment during their collaborative work. Among those she named are Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu, alleging both verbal and physical misconduct. She recounted incidents of abuse that ultimately compelled her to leave the Malayalam film scene for Chennai.

In one detailed account, she claimed that during a film event, Jayasurya forcefully hugged and kissed her. She further alleged that Idavela Babu expressed interest in pursuing a sexual relationship and that Maniyanpilla Raju made inappropriate comments regarding her hotel arrangements during a shoot.

The allegations trace back to 2013 and have sparked significant discussion, particularly within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), amid several controversies leading to the resignations of key figures like director Ranjith and actor Siddique from leadership roles in the organization.
