Meg Washington Unveils New Album Titled ‘A Message in a Bottle’

Meg Washington has debuted her fifth studio album, GEM, released under Batflower Records in collaboration with ORiGiN Recordings.
This album marks Washington’s first collection of original songs in five years, with production led by Ben Edgar, known for his work with Dope Lemon, Matt Corby, and Angus & Julia Stone.
Theme and Inspiration
Described as “an intimate, future-facing record,” the title GEM is simply Washington’s name spelled backward. It symbolizes the presence of “beauty even in the face of darkness.”
Reflecting on the album, Washington shared, “This album is a message in a bottle; a record that captures years spent alone on a deserted tropical island. Or was that just a dream? It springs from an inward journey, revealing something invaluable within oneself.”
Musical Exploration
The album delves into themes of nature, creativity, and self-determination, characterized by expressive guitar arrangements and deeply personal lyrics. It features the single “Fine,” with Paul Kelly, alongside tracks like “Kidding” and “Shangri-La.”
Washington is currently on a national tour that began last month and has announced three additional shows with her full band for the GEM tour.
Upcoming Tour Dates
The upcoming performances are set for:
- Melbourne: October 10th at MPAC, Monash University
- Brisbane: October 25th at QPAC Playhouse
- Sydney: November 7th at City Recital Hall
Tickets for these shows are available for public sale starting Tuesday, August 12th at 10am AEST through her official site.
