Meg Washington’s New Release Featuring Paul Kelly
Meg Washington has unveiled a fresh track called “Fine,” featuring the renowned Paul Kelly. This song is part of her upcoming fifth studio album, GEM, which is set to drop on Friday, August 8th.
A Collaborative Journey
Both the single and the album are being released under Washington’s own Batflower Records in partnership with ORiGiN Recordings. The duo has a rich history of collaboration, often sharing the stage and screen through various projects over the years.
Paul Kelly shared his thoughts, stating, “’Fine’ is a beautiful, uplifting song and it’s always a pleasure singing with Meg.”
The Story Behind "Fine"
Washington recalls, “Paul and I first performed the song together at my Forum show in Melbourne last year on December 21, ‘Gravy Day.’ It felt natural for Paul to sing it with me. It’s a hymnal affirmation, written as a round; a set of overlapping sections. It came from wanting to sing what I wanted to happen.”
What’s Inside GEM
The track “Fine” was penned by Washington and produced by Ben Edgar, known for his work with artists like Dope Lemon and Matt Corby. An interesting highlight is a choral version of “Fine” featured in the upcoming film How To Make Gravy, co-created by Washington and her partner Nick Waterman. The song is already making waves, as it won the 2025 AACTA Award for Best Original Song.
Discussing her album GEM, Washington reflects, “This album is a message in a bottle; a record detailing the years I spent quietly alone on a deserted tropical island. Or was that a dream? It came from looking inward. It’s about finding something very precious within yourself. I’ve called it GEM, which is my name in reverse.”
Upcoming Tour
To celebrate the release, Washington has embarked on an extensive East Coast tour, which started earlier this month and will continue until August 30th. Fans can grab dates and tickets now.
