Matt Cameron Reaffirms Active Music Career After Leaving Pearl Jam

Matt Cameron’s Departure from Pearl Jam

Matt Cameron made headlines recently by announcing his exit from Pearl Jam after an impressive 27-year tenure. He expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt message, stating, “I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam. I am forever grateful to the crew, staff, and fans the world over. It’s been an incredible journey. More to follow.”

Friendly Farewell and Future Plans

It appears that Cameron’s departure is amicable. During his last show in Pittsburgh at the PPG Paints Arena on May 18, the band shared a warm moment, with each member hugging him after a champagne toast. This North American tour seemingly served as a heartfelt farewell, but details surrounding Cameron’s reasons for leaving, as well as his future plans, remain unclear.

In a revealing Instagram Story, Cameron reassured fans that he hasn’t stepped away from music entirely, stating, “Thank you for the kind words of support, and for the record, I’m still an active musician.”

Soundgarden’s Future

Meanwhile, the surviving members of Soundgarden, who hold Chris Cornell’s final vocal tracks, have discussed the possibility of creating a last album. Soundgarden was initially slated to perform at the Black Sabbath Back to the Beginning farewell concert but could not coordinate their schedules. They expressed their regret in an Instagram statement, sharing, “The warmth, love, and support from the Black Sabbath team has been a continuing source of encouragement throughout our career.”

Excitement builds as Soundgarden prepares for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8. Guitarist Kim Thayil indicated their willingness to perform at the ceremony, stating, “It seems that invitation is there… but we would love to play there.”

Future of Pearl Jam

As for Pearl Jam, they have not made official statements about how they will proceed without Cameron. Some fans speculate about the possibility of reuniting with former drummer Dave Abbruzzese, but Abbruzzese himself remains skeptical. In a Facebook post, he mentioned a lack of personal contact with the band, saying, “The water under the bridge runs too deep and too icy for there to be any reconnection or reconciliation.”

He urged fans to stop encouraging him to reach out to Pearl Jam management, adding that while he is curious about a reunion, he doesn’t foresee it happening.

Despite this, Abbruzzese provided a glimpse into his drumming abilities over the weekend by posting a video of himself recreating his original drum part for the song “Animal.” While he may not be reaching out to the band directly, it seems he still wants to demonstrate that he has the talent to join them again, should the opportunity arise.

What are your thoughts on the future of both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden?
