Matlock is back for its second season, opening the courtroom doors once more. This time, Oscar winner Kathy Bates reprises her role as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, stepping into the legal limelight amid mysterious circumstances. The second season debuts on Sunday, October 12, with new episodes following weekly on Thursdays.
This modern take on the classic 1980s show centers around Matty, who now works at a top law firm in New York City. The first season followed her secret investigation into her daughter’s tragic death linked to the opioid crisis, culminating in revelations about hidden evidence tied to a colleague’s ex-husband.
The second season picks up right where the first left off, immediately plunging into personal and professional turmoil. The premiere episode, titled “The Before Times,” sees Matty grappling with the doubt surrounding the paternity of a man claiming to be Alfie’s father, all while dealing with a complex arson case that jeopardizes her legal team’s cohesion.
As drama unfolds in the courtroom, Olympia, Matty’s colleague, struggles to keep her own secrets under wraps while trying to protect her ex-husband, Julian, from being linked to the disastrous Wellbrexa scandal that could further strain Matty’s trust.
Executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman describes this season as bringing about “delicious dilemmas,” hinting at serious tests for the friendship between Matty and Olympia as truth slowly unfolds. Skye P. Marshall, portraying Olympia, teased that her character will challenge loyalties, promising an emotional ride for viewers.
Episode 1 of Matlock Season 2 will air at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS, and Paramount+ Premium subscribers can enjoy it live. Those with regular subscriptions can catch it the following day. Expect innovative storylines and intriguing new characters to shake things up this season.
