Mariah Carey Delights Singapore Fans with Iconic Hits and Whistle Notes

Being a casual admirer of Mariah Carey, attending The Celebration Of Mimi on October 8th was my first opportunity to witness her live performance. Walking into the concert, I was filled with nervous anticipation—not due to any doubt about her talent, but rather from the weight of my own expectations.

Mariah Carey has surpassed the label of “artiste” and has rightfully earned the title of “icon.” With an abundance of accolades and record-breaking sales to her name, she has influenced countless artists who followed in her footsteps. Her music remains culturally relevant; “My All” has become a TikTok sensation, and “All I Want For Christmas Is You” continues to be a beloved holiday classic, even after more than 30 years.

With such an impressive legacy, I felt my expectations for her concert at Arena @ Expo were understandably high, stirring a bit of anxiety about whether they might be too elevated.

Thankfully, my concerns were unfounded. Mariah Carey delivered a stunning 90-minute performance that left the audience captivated.

However, I did have a few reservations about the event. At times, the sound quality at the venue fell short of expectations, and the crowd management could have been better organized.

That said, when it comes to Mariah Carey’s artistry, she received full marks from me—she truly is an icon.

My admiration for Carey only deepened before she even began performing. She chose to push back the concert start time from 8 PM to 8:45 PM, allowing numerous fans to clear security and enter the venue. Remarkably, she retained her entire setlist despite the delay.

With a talented band and backing vocalists—including the esteemed Trey Lorenz—Mariah serenaded the audience with both classic favorites like “My All,” “Hero,” and “Vision of Love,” along with newer tracks like “Sugar Sweet” and “Play This Song.”

Even with minimal breaks, Mariah successfully hit every intended note, masterfully reaching those in her whistle register.

As the concert concluded, the entire audience rose to their feet, giving her the applause she rightly deserved.

While I wished for a bit more interaction between Carey and her fans, I can easily overlook it given her impressive vocal delivery throughout the show.

The Celebration Of Mimi lived up to its name, celebrating not just Mariah Carey’s lasting legacy as a performer but also as an individual. Even after decades in the industry, she continues to captivate audiences with her commanding presence, proving once again that she isn’t just a singer—she is the singer.
