She invited opener Yola to join her for “My Church,” the lead single from her debut album Hero released in 2016.

“Is it okay if we take you to church on this last one?” Morris asked the audience. Like a master storyteller, she performed the first verse solo, then invited Yola, whose vibrant stage presence left a lasting impression, to join her for the song’s conclusion.

Throughout the evening, Morris transformed her set into a storyteller’s delight. Sharing her dating experiences post-divorce, Morris remarked, “I started dating a little bit [after my divorce] and just met some bums that couldn’t pay the tab.” This honesty fueled the inspiration for her song “Too Good,” which she crafted with co-writers after reflecting on some unfortunate romantic encounters.

Morris also offered a heartfelt rendition of “Angel From Montgomery,” a classic by John Prine that Bonnie Raitt popularized. She revealed that this track was the first she ever learned to play on guitar, adding to its emotional significance.

A Charitable Cause

The evening was not just about music; it raised funds for Music Will, a leading nonprofit organization focused on music education in schools across the U.S. The event was sponsored by the FLAG Art Foundation, known for showcasing contemporary art from both emerging and established artists.
