During the Star Awards held on Sunday night (July 6), veteran actor and radio DJ Marcus Chin received his fifth Top 10 Most Popular Award. However, his appearance was slightly concerning; he looked a bit pale.
At 71 years old, Chin experienced heart palpitations shortly before his name was announced. Having had a heart attack in October of the previous year, he expressed feeling “scared” about the situation.
“The first few names called were not mine, which made my heart race and caused discomfort,” he mentioned backstage to 8days.sg. He was the seventh winner announced that evening.
“Even on stage, my heart was pounding. It only settled down after my speech and once I took a seat,” he shared.
Chin also noted that unlike his past experiences at award shows, he now finds such events stress-inducing.
Just last week, he raised health concerns during the Resilient Hearts 2025 charity show when his gums bled while he was speaking, a side effect of his heart medication.
“Next year, if I win again, please announce my name first,” he joked.
On stage, he was also worried about forgetting his acceptance speech. “I spoke quickly because I didn’t want to miss my punchline—thanking the two important women in my life: [Mediacorp] CEO and my supportive girlfriend, May,” he laughed.
“We live together, and she looks after me. Though she’s not always by my side, her concern for my health keeps her close.”
