Machine Gun Kelly Refused ‘Sinners’ Role to Steer Clear of Racial Slur

Machine Gun Kelly Reflects on Acting Choices
Machine Gun Kelly recently shared some intriguing insights about his acting career during an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. He revealed that he nearly joined the cast of the film Sinners but opted out because of his refusal to use a racial slur.
Audition Experience for Sinners
In the interview, MGK disclosed, “I was supposed to be in Sinners. They had me set up for the audition for the character who is a second vampire.” He elaborated that his decision stemmed from a specific line in the script needing the ‘n-word,’ which he was not comfortable saying.
The role in question was Bert, a member of the KKK, with actress Lola Kirke portraying his wife, Joan. Ultimately, the part went to Peter Dreimanis from the band July Talk, who took on the challenging role.
Aspirations Beyond Music
Despite his decision to turn down the role, MGK remains hopeful about his future in film. He expressed, “I have a lot of aspirations to be in movies, it just hasn’t panned out that way. I’m on universal timing… It’ll align. The angels will put something in the works.”
Kelly has built a diverse acting résumé, having played various roles in productions like Bird Box in 2018, The Dirt in 2019, The Last Son in 2021, and Taurus in 2022. He also appeared in the show Roadies back in 2016. Reflecting on his past auditions, he noted, “There’s been plenty of movies that came out that I was like, ah, I was supposed to be in that.”
Upcoming Album Release
In exciting news for fans, MGK is on the verge of releasing his seventh studio album, Lost Americana, this Friday. The album features tracks like “Cliché,” “Miss Sunshine,” and “Vampire Diaries,” with Travis Barker contributing to its production. Notably, the trailer for the album was narrated by the legendary Bob Dylan.
As MGK continues to balance his music and acting ambitions, one can’t help but wonder: what thrilling projects might he take on next?
