Lily Allen Announces Comeback with Exciting New Album, ‘West End Girl’
Lily Allen is gearing up for her long-awaited comeback with her upcoming studio album, West End Girl, marking her first release in seven years. Since delivering No Shame in 2018, the artist has refrained from sharing new music. Fans can look forward to the album’s release on Friday, October 24.
Vulnerability in Music
In her own words, Allen described her anticipation, stating, “I’m nervous.” She elaborated that this album is more vulnerable than her previous works, especially across an entire collection. The project came together rapidly; she wrote and recorded it within just 10 days in Los Angeles last year and finished it between New York and London.
New York’s Influence
The city of New York plays a significant role in the album, reflecting Allen’s experiences after relocating there in 2020. That year marked a personal milestone for her as she wed actor David Harbour. However, their marriage ended four years later, leading her back to London.
Documenting Life Changes
“I’ve tried to document my life in a new city and the events that led me to where I am in my life now,” Allen shared. She aims to explore shared emotions through her songs, blending fact and fiction. The result is an examination of human complexity in relationships and the ways people navigate them.
Podcast Insights
In a recent episode of her podcast, Miss Me? featuring Miquita Oliver, Allen hinted at her desire to create music in 2023, although initially viewing it as a hopeful ambition. “Firstly, I’m going to go and get my head straight for a bit,” she mentioned. “I’m doing a little bit of work on myself in this beginning period of the year, then I’m going to do some more writing, then I’m going to do my play, hopefully, maybe get an album out by the end of the year.”
