Liam Hemsworth leads ‘The Witcher’ in season four ‘refresh’

LONDON – Netflix’s fantasy series “The Witcher” makes its comeback after over two years, introducing a new lead actor and a renewed vibe, according to its producers.

This new season launches on Thursday, featuring Australian actor Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt of Rivia, succeeding Henry Cavill, who originated the character in 2019 but exited after season three in 2023.

The show draws inspiration from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s works, chronicling Geralt’s monster-hunting adventures across a mythical realm known as the Continent.

Hemsworth’s Perspective

Regarding his role transition, Hemsworth acknowledged the unique challenge. “It wasn’t lost on me that there’s a passionate fan base connected to this character. I aim to honor this world,” he stated.

He entered the project filled with ideas, looking to inject some humor into Geralt’s arc. “This is my interpretation, and I hope it enriches this story and Geralt’s journey,” Hemsworth shared with reporters.

Season Four’s Fresh Tone

Creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich emphasized that the new season finds a balance between the lightheartedness Hemsworth offers and darker elements. “It feels like a refresh for the show,” she remarked, noting that Hemsworth’s presence has infused new energy into the production.

As season four unfolds, Geralt reunites with new allies and develops emotional relationships. Laurence Fishburne joins the cast as vampire Regis, intrigued by the show’s diverse storytelling.

“The casting was non-traditional, reflecting the real world,” he noted.

This season was filmed alongside the fifth and final installment, encompassing Sapkowski’s remaining novels: “Baptism of Fire,” “The Tower of the Swallow,” and “Lady of the Lake.”
