A Long-Awaited Outing

Recently, H D Kumaraswamy, the Union minister and president of JD (Janta Dal), made headlines by attending a screening of the Kannada film Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 in New Delhi. This marked his first visit to a cinema in seven long years.

Accompanied by his wife, Anitha Kumaraswamy, and a group of Kannada journalists, Kumaraswamy visited the INOX Insignia theater located in Epicuria, Nehru Place. He noted that his last cinematic experience was back in 2018, when he watched a film featuring his son.

Praises for Kantara

During the movie’s intermission, Kumaraswamy shared his thoughts with PTI, stating, "I’ve heard glowing reviews about Kantara. Witnessing this film here reflects the recognition that Kannada cinema has gained for its quality."

He commended the film’s technical aspects, highlighting how elements like cinematography, editing, and screenplay worked harmoniously to achieve a significant impact. "This film emphasizes that a gripping story doesn’t require a well-known actor for success. The technical execution has created an immersive viewer experience," he added.

Released on October 2, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster. It is set in the rich historical context of coastal Karnataka, delving into the Bhuta Kola ritual’s ancient origins. The plot follows the struggle between the local forest tribes and a despotic king during the Kadamba dynasty’s reign.

Celebrating Cultural Heritage

Kumaraswamy took to Twitter after the screening to express his admiration, calling the film a "beautiful celebration of Kannada identity" and a "true expression of heart-pounding spirituality." He lauded the movie as a remarkable showcase of the cultural heritage of Tulunad, emphasizing its creative brilliance.
