Actor Kranti Prakash Jha reflects on this year’s Chhath Puja, calling it “extra special.” This sentiment stems from Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s sharing of the song Pahile Pahil Chhathi Maiya (2016), a piece sung by the late Sharda Sinha, which features him.
Humbling Acknowledgment
“It’s incredibly humbling to have someone like the Prime Minister recognize our cultural heritage,” Kranti mentions. He also honors Sharda Sinha, stating, “Her voice is immortal, and you can’t think of Chhath without her.”
Emotional Connection to Chhath
Known for his role in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Jha shares how the song resonates with many. “People from various countries have told me they’ve returned home for Chhath after hearing it. This song captures the essence of a migrant returning to his roots,” he explains. It’s a personal recharge for him, as well, with the song accumulating over one hundred million views across platforms.

Celebrating Traditions
For Kranti, celebrating Chhath at home in Begusarai is essential. He shares, “Wearing a dhoti-kurta is a must. I head to the ghat for the rituals, and the next day we enjoy kheer ka prasad. The strength of the women observing this fast is truly inspiring.”

The Sweet Taste of Thekua
Anticipating thekua, the traditional offering, adds to his excitement. “We enjoy it year-round, but on this day, it tastes even better. My nani made the best thekua, and now my mai and mami carry on that legacy,” he notes.

Roots and Glamour
Jha expresses, “Being a Maitha and speaking Maithili keeps me connected to my roots. While we work in a glamorous industry, it’s vital to stay grounded.”
He concludes, “Chhath is a celebration of nature and its bounties. Importantly, it serves as a great equalizer, bringing people from all walks of life together in their devotion.”
