A recent press statement highlights that the single and album delve into important themes such as love, self-discovery, and a renewed sense of freedom. The music video for "In Plain Sight," directed by 91 Rules, visually reinforces these concepts, showcasing Khalid escaping from a glass cage to express his freedom through dance.
Khalid expressed his enthusiasm for this new phase of his career, stating, “This chapter is about taking my power back, living in my truth, and being able to express myself freely. I’m excited for my fans to experience this new era with me, not just musically, but personally.”
A New Chapter with After the Sun Goes Down
After the Sun Goes Down marks Khalid’s fourth studio album and follows his previous release, Sincere, which came out last year. This album also represents his first creative endeavor since publicly coming out as gay last November. Khalid candidly shared on X, “I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao)—I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it’s nobody’s business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”
In Plain Sight serves as an introduction to the fresh musical direction Khalid is taking, branching out from earlier works. The album also follows his previous offering, Sincere, which featured memorable tracks like the love-infused “Adore U.”
