Kesha Embraces the Afterlife with ‘Tennessee’ and Rhinestone Elegance

Kesha opens her song with the poignant line, “When I leave, just celebrate / And lick the icing off my cake.” She expresses a hope that her life will bring joy, asking for one final toast with a shot of Jack while asking for rhinestones adorning her epitaph. The lyrics hint at her desire to be remembered as a wild spirit who also made a significant impact.

In another verse, Kesha imagines reaching the pearly gates and humorously notes, “If all my sins make Jesus piss, just tell ’em I’m on Dolly’s list.” This line showcases her trademark blend of humor and introspection.

The track features collaboration with Orville Peck, enhancing the second chorus with special guest vocals. “Tennessee” was initially part of the short film Stud Country.

This song will appear on a unique compilation album titled All Things Go: 10 Years, created to support the LGBTQ organization The Ally Coalition. Kesha feels proud to contribute to this compilation, which marks the 10-year anniversary of the associated festival, saying, “Knowing it’s helping The Ally Coalition makes it even more special.”

Alongside “Tennessee,” the album’s lineup includes previously released tracks such as “Welcome to the End” by Maren Morris and “Jesus & John Wayne” by Allison Ponthier and Joy Oladokun. The album also features a demo of “Green Tea” by Maude Latour, songs from Rachel Chinouriri and Bartees Strange, and a cover of Charli XCX’s “Sympathy Is a Knife” performed by Medium Build and Sydney Rose.
