Keanu Reeves Explores Name Change for Roles, Returns to Original in 6 Months
A Surprising Stage Name Decision
Renowned actor Keanu Reeves recently opened up about an intriguing chapter of his career where he considered changing his name. During a podcast discussion, the star of *John Wick* elaborated on how his manager suggested this name change in the early stages of his artistic journey.
Brainstorming a New Identity
At just 20 years old, Keanu made a bold move, driving to Los Angeles after an agent discovered him. It was then that his manager suggested, “We want to change your name.” Initially perplexed, he began considering alternatives.
“I remember walking on the beach, pondering, ‘What if I change my name?’ My middle name is Charles, so I thought about ‘Chuck.’ Growing up on Spadina Street, I even toyed with ‘Chuck Spadina.’ Eventually, I landed on ‘KC Reeves,’” he reminisced.
A Brief Name Change
This name change did accompany his debut film. However, just months later, he realized it wasn’t meant to be. “I couldn’t stick with it. In auditions, when they called out ‘KC Reeves,’ I wouldn’t respond. After six months, I said, ‘I’m not doing this anymore.’ That’s definitely a Hollywood moment,” he shared, reflecting on this unique experience.
As noted by *Variety*, Keanu’s name was indeed credited as “KC Reeves” in a 1986 television movie.
