This partnership marks a significant shift in the company’s dynamics, with Johar retaining the remaining stake alongside his role as Executive Chairman and CEO, Apoorva Mehta.
Karan’s Insights on the Decision
During a recent episode of the podcast “Game Changers,” Johar shared his thoughts on this partnership, emphasizing the friendship he shares with Adar and his wife, Natasha. He mentioned, “It turned out that Adar was genuinely interested in investing. Although I initially thought it wasn’t his area, he expressed a desire to expand.” Karan highlighted that having a partner makes one more accountable while maintaining creative control.
Challenges After Homebound
Johar expressed concerns about profitability moving forward, stating, “Now every decision will be profit-oriented. I recently produced ‘Homebound,’ which has received critical acclaim, but I’m uncertain if I’ll make similar choices in the future.” He added, “It’s important to showcase profitability, and while this deal is strategic, personal losses will be part of the journey.”
