Kajol, a prominent name in Bollywood today, reflected on her early aversion to the acting profession. This revelation came during her candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, where she discussed the challenges her mother, veteran actress Tanuja Mukherjee, faced in the film industry.

Tanuja’s legacy includes remarkable performances in films like Jewel Thief (1967) and Haathi Mere Saathi (1971). Despite her talent and legendary collaborations with actors such as Rajesh Khanna, her journey was marred by difficulties related to steady income and relentless work hours, which left a lasting impression on Kajol.
Kajol expressed, “When I was growing up, I saw her struggle. She worked constantly and didn’t receive adequate compensation for her efforts. I often thought, ‘I don’t want to work that hard.’” She recalled her mother’s demanding schedule, which included long hours that left little time for family life.
Through her mother’s experiences, Kajol developed a strong perspective on work-life balance in the film industry. Addressing current issues of fair treatment and pay within the sector, she stated her commitment to ensuring her projects respect her boundaries and artistic integrity.
She asserted, “If I like a script, there aren’t many restrictions. However, I have set boundaries regarding sensitive themes. I won’t partake in projects depicting violent scenarios that I find unnecessary.” Kajol’s insights highlight how her mother’s resilience not only shaped her approach to acting but also instilled the importance of maintaining balance.
