John Smedley Partners with Bill Nighy for Exciting New Collaboration
Introduction of the John Smedley and Bill Nighy Collaboration
The renowned British luxury knitwear brand John Smedley has launched an exclusive capsule collection in partnership with actor Bill Nighy, a fan of the brand since he was 17. Nighy describes his long-term reliance on John Smedley knitwear as a “foundational part of his wardrobe” for over fifty years.
Reimagined Classic Designs
This unisex collection, known as Bill Nighy for John Smedley, emphasizes timeless values like longevity, craftsmanship, and understated elegance. It features refined tailoring elements, including larger collars and more prominent ribbing that give classic silhouettes a modern twist.
Distinctive Features of the Collection
This collection showcases highlights like a sharply angled waistcoat and cardigan that present a unique twin set, blending traditional suiting styles with a relaxed aesthetic. Notably, it includes a cashmere and merino Long Johns set, which Nighy requested, as he wears a pair on every film set.
Personal touches are evident, such as the prominent use of deep navy, Nighy’s preferred color, and bird motifs that he has drawn for scripts throughout his career, now reinterpreted as embroidery in complementary hues.

Quality Craftsmanship at Its Best
All items in this collection are skillfully crafted in England using John Smedley’s signature fine gauge merino wool, cashmere, and Sea Island cotton. Jess Mcguire-Dudley, managing director of John Smedley, praised the collaboration, stating that every design element was meticulously considered, ensuring an authentic connection to the brand.
The first release of Bill Nighy’s unisex collection will be available starting October 17 at John Smedley’s website and their London locations, with prices beginning at £200. A second drop is anticipated in February 2026.

Legacy of John Smedley in Knitwear
Founded in 1784, John Smedley has a long-standing history of creating exquisite merino knitwear in England and holds a Royal Warrant of Appointment from HM King Charles III. As the world’s oldest operational factory, it recently invested over £3 million in state-of-the-art machinery to enhance production and promote local knitwear manufacturing.
The brand has also introduced a diffusion line, JS by John Smedley, available at John Lewis, aimed at making British knitwear accessible to a broader audience.
