In a heartfelt announcement on Friday, Lodge’s family shared that he passed “suddenly and unexpectedly.” He peacefully departed surrounded by loved ones and the tunes of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.

Birmingham-born Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966, soon after the band’s formation, alongside Justin Hayward. He was part of the group until its final live performance in 2018.

Musical Legacy

Lodge contributed to some of the band’s most memorable albums, including the landmark 1967 album “Days Of Future Passed,” which is often recognized as one of the first rock concept albums. His influence extended to works like “In Search Of The Lost Chord” released the following year.

He was also involved in the 1977 success “Octave,” where the band adopted a pop-oriented style.

The Moody Blues continued recording until their last studio album “December” was released in 2003, featuring a collection of Christmas songs. They remained active on stage until 2018, the same year they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

“As John would often express at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith,” his family remarked in their statement.
