## John Lennon’s Iconic Glasses at Auction

The tinted, circular glasses once worn by **John Lennon** during his infamous “lost weekend” in Los Angeles are set to be auctioned. These unique spectacles are estimated to fetch around $400,000 in a sale organized by Propstore as part of their Music Memorabilia Live Auction.

## Auction Details

This event promises a treasure trove of rare items from various music legends, including handwritten lyrics by **Jimi Hendrix** for “Straight Ahead” and **Michael Jackson**’s white fedora from the “Smooth Criminal” music video. Fans and collectors will have the chance to secure pieces of music history.

## A Night to Remember

Lennon donned these glasses on March 12, 1974, during an event at the Troubadour Club, where he and **Harry Nilsson** famously heckled the Smothers Brothers. Due to their inebriated state, the night escalated into chaos, resulting in the duo being escorted out. Notably, the original Sotheby’s catalog reveals that Lennon lost his glasses amidst the commotion, and they ended up with Tommy Smothers’ wife.

### A Glimpse into the Past

Reflecting on that night, Smothers noted, “The heckling got so bad that our show was going downhill rapidly. My wife ended up with Lennon’s glasses because of the punches that were thrown.”

## The “Lost Weekend”

Lennon’s “lost weekend” marked a significant period during his separation from **Yoko Ono**, lasting from 1973 to 1975. During this time, he began a relationship with their assistant **May Pang**, who was encouraged by Ono to give Lennon some space.

In a revealing 1980 interview, Ono expressed the pressures she felt during their relationship. “I really needed some space because I was used to being an artist and free… I lost the freedom,” she remarked, highlighting the intensity of their public life and its impact on her creativity.
