Jimmy Barnes to Perform ‘For The Working Class Man’ Live at Sydney Opera House

Jimmy Barnes is gearing up for a momentous celebration of For The Working Class Man, and everyone is welcome to join in.

The renowned Australian rock star will perform the album in its entirety on the steps of the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Wednesday, December 10th. This performance marks the 40th anniversary of the album’s release and is part of his national ‘Working Class Man 40th Anniversary Tour.’ Special guest Kate Ceberano will also be taking the stage.

“For The Working Class Man was deeply significant to me. Collaborating with fantastic musicians changed my life and paved the way for my solo career,” Barnes expressed. “I’m thrilled to celebrate For The Working Class Man at the Opera House alongside my dear friend Kate Ceberano. It promises to be a memorable evening.”

Launched in December 1985, For The Working Class Man debuted at number one, maintaining its position for seven weeks and selling over half a million copies. The album features iconic tracks like “I’d Die to Be With You Tonight,” “Ride the Night Away,” and the unofficial national anthem, “Working Class Man,” solidifying Barnes’ solo journey away from Cold Chisel.

In honor of this milestone, a limited-edition remastered version of the album will be released on November 14th through Mushroom Music, available as a 2LP set on hand-poured ‘flame’ vinyl for the first time. Additionally, collectors can grab a special box of colored 7” singles, which includes a newly reworked version of “Working Class Man,” featuring a ten-minute reflection from Barnes on its iconic music video. CD and cassette versions will also be available.

Ceberano, fresh from her ‘Australian Made’ Tour, will entertain audiences with her own Platinum repertoire, alongside classics from Cold Chisel, Icehouse, Divinyls, Sia, Bernard Fanning, and Wolfmother.

The ‘Working Class Man 40th Anniversary Tour’ will kick off in Geelong on November 22nd, continuing through Mount Cotton, Hunter Valley, Hobart, Barossa Valley, and Swan Valley.

Tickets for the Sydney Opera House event will be available starting Thursday, August 21st through the Sydney Opera House and Ticketmaster, with pre-sales beginning on Monday, August 18th.
