Hockey Dad Unveils New Track ‘All Hat No Cattle’ Before Their EP Release

## Hockey Dad Unveils New Single and EP Announcement
Indie rock duo Hockey Dad has unveiled their latest single, “All Hat No Cattle,” alongside the exciting news about their debut independent EP, *The Clip*.
### A New Chapter for Hockey Dad
Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming, who have been friends since childhood, form the heart of Hockey Dad. Known for their surf and skate-infused rock sound, the duo is taking a significant step with this new release. Following their album *Rebuild Repeat* in 2024, this upcoming EP is a pivotal moment in their artistic journey.
The six-track EP marks their return to independent music, allowing them to showcase their signature DIY indie rock style. *The Clip* reflects themes of self-discovery and incorporates the sonic elements that fans enjoyed in their earlier works like *Brain Candy* (2020) and *Blend Inn* (2018).
### The Essence of “All Hat No Cattle”
The lead track from the EP, “All Hat No Cattle,” is a vibrant piece that expands on ideas the duo explored in their youth. Nostalgic yet fresh, the song achieves a perfect blend of innovation and familiarity.
The band shared their insight into the song’s inspiration: “It’s just one of those sayings that when you hear it you have to write a song about it. A guy pulled into the service station with a Ford Truck the size of a school bus. A comedic-sized cowboy hat. Brand new jeans and boots straight from the box. I heard a cheeky old lady mutter under her breath, ‘That boy’s all hat and no cattle.’ I’d heard enough.”
They also reflected on a deeper meaning behind the lyrics: “Other than a portrait of this fake cowboy, the lyrics might be a dig at myself. I became such a fan of country music throughout the last five or so years. Being a boy from Australia, it feels like it’s not in my lane. I’m the fake cowboy who hasn’t worked a day in his life out there on the land.”
### Addressing Industry Challenges
This new EP represents one of Hockey Dad’s first significant steps after canceling their Europe and UK tour earlier this year. The duo cited financial strain and burnout, garnering supportive reactions from fans and industry peers alike.
The current touring landscape is a tough one for many artists. The rising costs of travel and accommodation, combined with the chaotic aftermath of the pandemic, have made it challenging even for established acts. Hockey Dad’s experience sheds light on a pressing issue: the increasing financial burden that international touring places on musicians.
“All Hat No Cattle” is available now, and *The Clip* is set to be released on September 12th.
