Hema Malini has expressed her sorrow over the passing of veteran actor Asrani, known for his memorable role in the classic film Sholay.

Asrani passed away on Monday at the age of 84 after battling a prolonged illness. Hema shared a nostalgic photo of them together on her X account, offering heartfelt words in remembrance of her co-star.

In her poignant tribute, Hema stated, “We have lost one more gem of an actor. Asrani ji who has regaled audiences with his superb comedy, is no more. He has played many memorable roles alongside me, but his role as jailer in Sholay was simply mind-blowing!”

Furthermore, she remarked, “The film industry, already in mourning over Pankaj Dheer’s passing, faces yet another significant loss. Heartfelt condolences to his family who have to bear this heavy loss.”

According to Asrani’s manager, Babu Bhai Thiba, he passed away at 3 PM in Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu. He is survived by his wife, sister, and nephew.

Throughout a career that spanned over five decades, Asrani became one of the most cherished figures in Hindi cinema. Renowned for his impeccable comic timing and expressive performances, he appeared in over 350 films. His portrayal as the jail warden in the 1975 classic Sholay remains an iconic aspect of Indian culture. More recently, he was part of projects like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhamaal, Bunty Aur Babli 2, and many others.
