Hatchie Releases Second Single “Liquorice” – Listen Now!

Hatchie has unveiled another track from her upcoming album, Liquorice.

The new song “Only One Laughing” features a sparkling guitar melody and the enchanting essence that characterizes the Australian singer-songwriter’s work. This release continues to elevate expectations for her next record.

According to Hatchie, “I wrote ‘Only One Laughing’ to express my frustrations about the world and my own circumstances during early 2023. I wanted the song to feel vibrant and energetic, as if you were struggling to keep pace with my feelings about the lack of control in my life.”

Working alongside producer Melina Duterte, better known as Jay Som, Hatchie embraces a genuine, unfiltered sound in Liquorice. The album mirrors the rich layers of its namesake candy, exploring the intertwined themes of longing and obsession in the self-discovery journey of young womanhood.

“This album feels like the realization of everything I’ve aimed for in this project since its inception,” Hatchie shares.

She highlights her focus on the nuances of love—both found and lost—drawing inspiration from her favorite tragic romance films. “I’ve never felt more aligned with an album and can’t wait to share this experience with everyone,” she adds.

Taking a break from touring to reconnect with her roots in Australia allowed Hatchie to reflect on her priorities and relationships. This time of introspection significantly influenced the album, which showcases her growing comfort in her own identity.

Traditionally known for her clear influences, Hatchie aimed to compose without specific musical inspirations, letting her songs develop organically rather than rushing. She was drawn back to the melodic simplicity of her earlier lyrics, viewing her musical vulnerabilities as integral parts of her artistic expression: “I wanted to see my limitations as strengths that inform my style.”

Hatchie’s “Only One Laughing” is available now, and Liquorice will be released on November 7th.
