Gulshan Devaiah Critiques Fan Behavior at Screening
Recently, a video surfaced showing a fan dressed as the Daiva character during a screening of “Kantara Chapter 1.” This incident drew the ire of actor Gulshan Devaiah, who condemned the inauthenticity of such acts.
Devaiah Calls It a ‘Cheap Gimmick’
In a discussion with a media outlet, Gulshan remarked, “This behavior represents a cheap gimmick. Nowadays, people pursue fleeting fame with little regard for authenticity. It’s disheartening.”
He highlighted the impact of sincerity, particularly referencing the dedication displayed by Rishab Shetty, the film’s lead actor. “Rishab approaches his role with true devotion, which resonates deeply with audiences,” he added.
The video depicted a fan making an extravagant entrance while dressed as Daiva, drawing the attention of security as he danced around the theater. Following the uproar, the filmmakers of “Kantara Chapter 1” urged spectators to refrain from emulating Daiva characters in public wrongly.
Filmmakers’ Response
In a statement, the production team expressed concern over trivializing cultural beliefs. “The portrayal of Dhaivaradhane, integral to our film, is rooted in a profound spiritual tradition. Mimicking such representations can undermine the integrity of our beliefs and hurt the sentiments of the Tulu community,” they stressed.
About Kantara Chapter 1
Directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Hombale Films, “Kantara Chapter 1” serves as a precursor to the acclaimed 2022 film “Kantara.” In this film, Gulshan Devaiah plays Kulashekhara, a complex and ruthless king. The narrative also uncovers the historical origins of the Buta Kola ritual.
With positive critical acclaim, the film has achieved remarkable box office success, grossing over ₹500 crore globally within its first nine days of release.
