Genesis Owusu is making waves once again. The talented artist, celebrated with multiple ARIA Awards, has just released his new single “PIRATE RADIO,” available through Ourness.
A Bold New Direction
Fusing edgy punk vibes with powerful rap elements, this marks Owusu’s first new release in two years. The track offers a stark and thought-provoking commentary on the complexities of our fractured society. He reflects: “The rich are getting richer and us regulars are eating each other alive. Smoke-screened by paranoia-inducing culture wars and our own growing poverty. ‘There is no war in Ba Sing Se’ type shit.”
Owusu emphasizes the need for voices that challenge the status quo, asserting, “Someone’s gotta sound the alarm and break the hypnosis.” He critiques the narratives that distract from deeper issues, stating, “If Elon Musk has no more haters then I’m dead.”
Exciting Performances Ahead
In other news, Genesis Owusu is set to perform a series of intimate shows this month with his four-piece band. Fans can catch him at the Sydney Opera House’s Studio from September 18th to September 20th, followed by performances at The Night Cat in Melbourne from September 24th to September 26th.
Supporting acts include the innovative hip-hop trio Shady Nasty on four nights, as well as xmunashe on two occasions.

This year, Owusu released his second studio album, Struggler, which climbed into the top five on the ARIA Albums Chart. His debut album, Smiling with No Teeth, released in 2021, was a standout success, gaining significant recognition.
