G Flip is embracing the vibrant spirit of the ’80s with their upcoming third album, Dream Ride, set to drop on September 5. The Australian artist is drawing inspiration from the sounds of that iconic era while introducing an alter ego, affectionately named “Butch Springsteen.”

When discussing the inspiration behind Dream Ride, G Flip expressed their fascination with the era’s sonic characteristics. “I was sonically captivated by the ’80s,” they mentioned in a press statement. This fascination includes everything from the reverb and drum tones to the musicality and impressive solos that defined the music of that time.
They further reflected on the concept behind the album: “I kept asking myself, ‘Who would I have been in the ’80s? What would I wear, what haircut would I have, and what car would I drive?’” The answer materialized as Butch Springsteen, a fictional masc lesbian, non-binary pop star, who’s both a drummer and a vocalist.
The Birth of Dream Ride
G Flip shared that Dream Ride came to life after many late-night drives to the studio, which influenced the car-themed lyrics woven throughout the album. They admitted, “I also love old cars and totally wanted to drive a Barracuda around,” adding a personal touch to their creative process. The album cover features G Flip posing next to a striking hot-pink vintage car, perfectly encapsulating the retro vibe.
New Music on the Horizon
To mark the album announcement, G Flip dropped the new single “In Another Life,” heralding the beginning of their Dream Ride journey. This album will also include tracks such as “Disco Cowgirl” and “Big Ol’ Hammer,” featuring comedian Fortune Feimster.
