Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse Take on Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’

## Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse’s frontman, Isaac Brock, recently honored the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away at the age of 76 on July 22. They delivered a powerful cover of Black Sabbath’s iconic track “War Pigs” during the opening of their joint tour at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta on August 1.
### A Memorable Performance
During the encore of The Flaming Lips’ set, Brock joined the band on stage for an energetic version of the 1970 heavy metal classic. “You’ll know this song,” teased the band’s lead singer, Wayne Coyne. He mentioned that they have performed “War Pigs” since 2006, though they only play select parts of the song for audience participation. Brock humorously chimed in, “I don’t know the words.”
### Other Tributes to Ozzy
Musicians from various genres have been paying tribute to Osbourne since his passing. Green Day performed a snippet of “Iron Man” during a show, Alice Cooper and his band covered “Paranoid,” and Carrie Underwood showcased “Mama, I’m Comin’ Home” on The Howard Stern Show.
## Celebration of Life
Last week, Ozzy was celebrated in his hometown of Birmingham with a funeral procession paid for by his family. A black hearse carried his casket as local band Bostin’ Brass played for thousands of fans lining the streets. Sharon Osbourne and other family members were present, expressing their gratitude to fans and laying flowers at a memorial spot dedicated to the Black Sabbath icon.
### Tour Details
The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse are set to continue their North American tour on August 5 in Philadelphia. The Good Times Are Killing Me Tour will stop in various cities including Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Chicago, wrapping up in Troutdale, Oregon on September 10 and 11. On this tour, Modest Mouse will open, while The Flaming Lips will close, except for the last two nights where Modest Mouse will take the final spot.
