Fat Freddy's Drop Kicks Off Anniversary Tour for Debut Album

Fat Freddy’s Drop Announces Tour

The Kiwi band Fat Freddy’s Drop is gearing up for a major international tour with 51 dates planned. This will be their first series of shows following the passing of founding member Chris ‘Mu’ Faiumu earlier this year.

Celebrating 21 Years of Music

This tour commemorates the 21st anniversary of their iconic debut album, “Based on a True Story,” which was independently released in 2005. This album holds the record as the longest-charting album in New Zealand’s history.

Carrying on Mu’s Legacy

Lead vocalist Dallas Tamaira mentioned that the band was united in their decision to proceed with the scheduled tour, despite the recent loss of Mu. He emphasized their dedication to honoring Mu’s legacy by performing the album live.

In the wake of their significant loss, the band expressed that losing their “talismanic founding member, production maestro, selector, and brother” was indeed a “seismic shift” in their lives.

Honoring a Musical Journey

Saxophonist Scott Towers noted that the success of the band’s first full-length studio album served as a “springboard for what has become an incredible journey.” He underscored the band’s intention to pay tribute not just to Mu and the music, but also to their loyal fans who have always stood by them.

Concert Dates in New Zealand

Fans in New Zealand will have the opportunity to see Fat Freddy’s Drop live at six different shows, including two concerts at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre on May 1 and 2, followed by two performances at Christchurch Town Hall on May 9 and 10, and wrapping up with two nights at Auckland Town Hall on May 15 and 16.
