The Reasons Behind Vince’s Departure
Fans have been curious about the reasoning behind Billy Burke’s character exit and whether it was due to his personal choice. However, the decision to have Vince die stemmed from the show’s creators, Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.
In a statement to TV Insider, they explained that this narrative choice was aimed at reflecting the realities of firefighting. With a focus on truthfulness regarding the dangers of the profession, they realized that it was time for meaningful loss in the storyline. Phelan highlighted, “We wanted to explore legacy through Vince and his father, making his absence pivotal for the growth of other characters.”
The creators desired to honor Vince’s character, ensuring that his legacy would resonate throughout Season 4. Rater mentioned that revealing Vince’s fate in the trailer was intentional, aiming to prepare audiences for the emotional impact of his departure right away.
