Electronic Pioneers Return with New Album ‘Moments’ After Five-Year Hiatus

Cut Copy has recently released their seventh album, titled Moments, their first new material in five years.
This album marks a return for the Melbourne-based band, showcasing their signature synth-heavy sound that originated in the early 2000s. Along with the previously released singles “Solid,” “Still See Love,” and “When This Is Over,” Moments includes a noteworthy collaboration with American folk artist Kate Bollinger on the track “Belong to You.”
Insights from Dan Whitford
Dan Whitford, a founding member of Cut Copy, shared that “Belong to You” was one of the initial tracks created for the new album and instantly felt like a pop hit in the making.
He explained, “The song narrates the story of a man dwelling on past errors, oblivious to the fact that the love he seeks has been within reach all along.”
As they were developing the song, a friend introduced them to Kate Bollinger, who they felt would add something special. “Once I heard Kate’s voice on the track, it sounded incredible. I envisioned it as a blend of sci-fi vibes with a country love song,” Whitford said.
Whitford also mentioned that they brought in “Evil” Graham Lee from the legendary Australian band The Triffids to add his distinctive pedal steel sound, which completed the track beautifully.
Working with artists from different musical backgrounds was a “real treat,” as they blended to create something unique.
