Refusing Media Engagement During ED Operations

As the situation unfolded on Wednesday, Dulquer was observed arriving in Kochi. Sporting a casual outfit of a blue shirt and jeans along with sunglasses and a hat, he was approached by reporters. Despite their persistent queries regarding the raids, Dulquer opted not to engage, choosing instead to walk past them, get into his car, and depart. Reports indicated Dulquer had been summoned by the ED, but additional particulars remain pending.

Understanding the ED Raids

The action commenced on September 23 when the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate executed over 30 raids in Kochi as part of Operation Numkhor, targeting luxury vehicles linked to piracy. PTI reported that Dulquer was recently allowed by the Kerala High Court to seek the release of a vehicle confiscated by Customs. He has claimed that the officials acted without adequately reviewing the vehicle’s documentation.

Subsequently, the ED launched its raids, focusing on properties related to Dulquer and Mammootty, with actions taken under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) concerning allegations of vehicle smuggling and unauthorized foreign exchanges. Additionally, the ED is expected to file a criminal case as per the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for further investigation into these claims.
