Diane Keaton’s Family Life

Diane Keaton adopted two children, Duke and his sister Dexter, now 29, in her 50s, raising them as a single mother.

Reflecting on her motherhood journey, she mentioned, “Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist. It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.”

While Duke and Dexter mostly maintained a low profile, they joined Keaton during her Hand & Footprint Ceremony in Los Angeles in August 2022. Keaton expressed the significance of their presence, stating, “Everything. I love them.”

She also remarked, “They have no interest in what I do, which I think is very healthy. We live a relatively normal — well, sort of normal — life.”

Keaton’s family publicly confirmed her passing on Saturday in California, although no cause of death has been disclosed as of yet.

Friends shared that her health had “declined very suddenly” in the months leading up to her death. “It was so unexpected,” one friend informed *People*, especially for someone known for her strength and vitality.

Carole Bayer Sager, a long-time friend, observed Keaton just weeks prior to her death, noting that the actress had lost considerable weight and appeared frail.
