Don McGlashan is set to release his inaugural solo live album, Take It to the Bridge, on August 22nd.
This album captures the essence of his recent 23-date tour, featuring special guest Anita Clark (Motte) from Christchurch. Fans can look forward to a limited edition 8-track black vinyl, a 13-track CD, and it will also be accessible on all major digital platforms.
Take It to the Bridge beautifully showcases McGlashan’s masterful storytelling and songwriting, featuring tracks from his solo endeavors, as well as from his time with The Mutton Birds and The Front Lawn. The addition of Anita Clark’s violin and vocals enhances the depth of these performances.
This marks McGlashan’s first release since 2022’s Bright November Morning, which soared to #1 on the Official NZ Album Charts. He’s also embarked on creating a new studio album, slated for 2026.
To celebrate his upcoming live album, McGlashan is organizing two special performances in August: a solo concert in Nelson, which is already sold out, and a headlining show with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (details below).
“Don McGlashan is an iconic figure in Aotearoa music, continuously evolving. The frontman of The Blam Blam Blam and The Mutton Birds sounds as vibrant as ever on his latest solo project, his first since Lucky Stars in 2015.
“It’s an impressive feat to remain this relevant so late into a career—artists like Jimmy Barnes and Robert Forster also exemplify how to maintain such quality over several decades. Bright November Morning is replete with classic McGlashan moments, reflecting the subtleties of life in a way that only he can.”
Don McGlashan’s Take It to the Bridge is available on August 22nd. Be sure to check for pre-orders!
