The much-anticipated concert by Disturbed in Brussels, Belgium, has been cancelled due to safety issues linked to lead singer David Draiman’s support for Israel. The heavy metal band was set to perform alongside Megadeth at the Forest National venue on October 15.
Mayor’s Decision on the Concert
Charles Spapens, the mayor of the area where the concert was scheduled, announced the cancellation, citing “security risks.” This decision comes in light of concerns for the safety of residents, demonstrators, and concertgoers. He expressed, “My responsibility starts with the safety of everyone involved at Forest National.”
Controversial Remarks Lead to Backlash
Prior to the cancellation, Mayor Spapens had voiced opposition to the concert, referencing a polarizing photo of Draiman. In this image, he was seen signing an IDF bomb with the words “Fuck Hamas” during a recent visit to Israel. Spapens remarked, “This event raises moral questions, especially given the context.”
Timing and Additional Concerns
In addition to the political controversy, the concert was scheduled for a day following a significant national strike and other protests, including a strike by prison staff in Brussels on October 14. This timing prompted further evaluations of the Disturbed concert by local authorities.
Ongoing Ticket Listings and Future Concerts
Even after the mayor’s announcement, tickets for the Brussels concert are still available through Live Nation and other platforms. The band has yet to officially respond regarding the status of the show. Recently, Disturbed took the stage in Krakow, Poland, and is slated to perform next in Paris, France, on Sunday.
