Umesh Bist has recently taken the helm as the director for the second season of The Trial, known for showcasing strong female characters. He believes every storyteller has a unique way of narrating their tales. “Writing is unique to every person, and so is storytelling. Everyone has their style, which makes even the same story feel different,” Bist explains.

Before working with Kajol, Umesh directed Sanya Malhotra in the film Pagglait (2021). He noted the qualities they both share as actors. “Kajol embodies a pure innocence when developing her characters. There’s an honesty in her performance that reflects her true self. Similarly, Sanya also exhibits that innocence,” he remarked, expressing his appreciation for both actresses.

Bist has consistently portrayed strong female roles in his projects, highlighting the experiences and struggles faced by women. “My storytelling is influenced by the remarkable women I have encountered. Their paths have often been challenging, navigating societal expectations and obstacles regardless of their standing,” he shared, emphasizing his empathy for their experiences.
