The Big Cat Public Safety Act is a federal law in the United States aimed at prohibiting the private ownership, breeding, and sale of big cats such as tigers and lions. As outlined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Act, enacted on December 20, 2022, aims to curb the dangers associated with keeping big cats as pets. Individuals owning such big cats before the law’s enactment were required to register them by June 18, 2023.
