Dhanush Clarifies Rumors About Selling Flowers for Idlis Amid Budget Constraints

Dhanush Responds to Criticism

During a recent event for Idli Kadai, Dhanush addressed skepticism surrounding a personal anecdote he shared previously. He responded to inquiries, explaining, “I was born in 1983, and my father made his first film in 1991. With four children to raise, our household budget was consistently tight. Education was the priority, and we often had to earn our own pocket money.”

Dhanush is directing, producing, and starring in Idli Kadai, set to release on 1 October.

Clarifying Financial Struggles

Dhanush elaborated, stating that it wasn’t until 1995 that the family achieved financial stability. He reflected on his childhood struggles, recalling how he and his siblings collected flowers to sell so they could afford idlis. “We would wake up at 4 AM to gather flowers, earning around ₹2 which we used to buy idlis,” he added.

Previous Remarks

At the audio launch for Idli Kadai, Dhanush had also mentioned, “Desiring idlis every day, I couldn’t afford them as a child. Collecting flowers became our solution.” Many questioned the story, citing his privileged background as the son of director Kasthuri.
