David Byrne Announces His Wedding This Week and Shares a Special Playlist

David Byrne’s Upcoming Wedding
Exciting news is on the horizon for David Byrne. The former frontman of Talking Heads has announced that he is set to marry this week. This announcement comes shortly after he revealed his engagement to Mala Gaonkar, along with sharing a specially curated playlist of instrumental tracks intended for his wedding dinner.
Instrumental Playlist for a Joyous Atmosphere
Byrne took to Instagram to share his plans, writing, “I’m getting married this week and made an almost entirely instrumental playlist while our guests eat an amazing and spicy dinner.” He noted that he believes lyrics can be distracting, particularly when guests might focus on familiar songs instead of the dining experience.
Byrne’s playlist features 42 tracks, predominantly focusing on Latin music. Some highlights include “Pa Japón” by El Alfa, “Perfidia” by Café Tacvba, and pieces by Son Rompe Pera, Mexican Institute of Sound, and Meridian Brothers. The collection also includes renowned artists like Herbie Hancock alongside an instrumental rendition of Post Malone’s “Wow.”
Engagement and Relationship Journey
In a recent interview, Byrne disclosed his engagement to Gaonkar while discussing his song “Moisturizing Things” from his forthcoming album. He reflected humorously on how his fiancée sometimes playfully approaches him with greasy hands, leading to a deeper message about societal judgments based on appearance.
The couple first collaborated in 2016 during a theater performance at the Stanford Arts Institute. They reconnected years later for another project in 2022 and have since been spotted together at various events, including the 2023 Oscars.
Upcoming Album Release
As his wedding approaches, Byrne is also gearing up to release his new album, Who Is the Sky?, alongside the Ghost Train Orchestra. He shared that the intriguing album title stemmed from a slight misinterpretation by a digital assistant. “I thought, ‘That’s a beautiful phrase,’” he expressed, and thus, it made the cut for his album title list.
