Connan Mockasin’s Musical Journey

Mockasin first made waves with his debut album, Please Turn Me Into the Snat, released in 2010, which was rebranded as Forever Dolphin Love a year later. His sophomore effort, Caramel, came out in 2013, showcasing his unique sound.

Five years later, he unveiled Jassbuster, a concept album recorded in just one week during a live session in Paris. This project was complemented by the surreal five-part film, Bostyn ‘n Dobsyn. In November 2021, he released Jassbusters Two, a sequel that emerged from spontaneous jam sessions with his touring band in Brooklyn.

Collaborative Projects

In addition to his solo efforts, Mockasin has embraced a variety of collaborative and experimental projects. He worked alongside his father, Ade, on the heartfelt 2013 album It’s Just Wind, and partnered with Sam Dust (LA Priest) for the 2016 project, Soft Hair. His collaboration with Dev Hynes and Mac DeMarco resulted in Myths 001, further showcasing his whimsical and psychedelic sound.

Influence on Modern Artists

Mockasin’s innovative style has quietly influenced a new wave of artists, with musicians like Frank Ocean, Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator, and Steve Lacy openly citing their admiration for his work. While some have collaborated with him, others take inspiration from his distinctive musical approach.
