Comic-Con Honors James Gunn and Reveals First Look at Coyote vs. Acme

Director James Gunn received a warm ovation at Comic-Con for his work on Superman. Thousands cheered for him at this iconic event.

The third day of the San Diego pop culture celebration featured a heartfelt tribute to Gunn, who currently leads Warner Bros.’ DC Comics cinematic universe. Even John Cena, donning his Peacemaker costume, added a comedic touch.

This moment unfolded during a panel for the anticipated second season of HBO’s *The Peacemaker*. Cena was fully outfitted in character, igniting the crowd with the exaggerated drama reminiscent of his wrestling career.

This was Gunn’s first public appearance since *Superman* garnered more than US$200 million at the North American box office. He expressed his joy, stating, “Today has been the most fun day I’ve had in a year,” as he connected with fans.

*Superman* marks his debut as the architect of the DC franchise, following his previous endeavor, *The Suicide Squad*, which led to the Peacemaker TV series.

During the panel, attendees were treated to sneak peeks of Season 2, set to launch in August. It features Cena’s character navigating another dimension, depicting a more heroic version rather than the usual flawed persona. Notably, characters from *Superman* will make appearances.

Just before this panel, Hall H thrummed with excitement as Ryan Gosling and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller showcased clips from their upcoming science-comedy space adventure, *Project Hail Mary*.

The film, slated for a March release, introduces Rocky, a quirky stone-like alien who teams up with Gosling to prevent an ecological disaster across the universe.

Fans in Hall H enjoyed a montage of humor, showcasing Coyote’s eternal misadventures, all set to Johnny Cash’s cover of *Hurt*. A comedic personal injury lawyer ad also made an amusing appearance during the screening.

Attendees got a glimpse of six minutes from the film, including a chaotic courtroom scene featuring Coyote’s lawyer, Will Forte, which hilariously escalates with a rocket-powered mishap.

Forte expressed his initial doubts about the film reaching audiences, stating, “You think back to the journey that this movie has taken. I had kind of given up hope at a certain point.” His comments were interrupted by a character portraying an Acme lawyer issuing cease-and-desist letters, adding to the fun.

Director Dave Green shared that the film aligns with the traditional rules established by animator Chuck Jones regarding the Coyote and Roadrunner dynamic, emphasizing that the Coyote is more humiliated than hurt in his infamous fails.

Look forward to seeing many classic Looney Tunes characters in the film, which will debut on August 28, 2026. *Coyote vs. Acme* is a collaborative project between Ketchup Entertainment and Warner Bros.
