Chet Faker Unveils Heartfelt New Single ‘Inefficient Love’

Chet Faker’s New Single: "Inefficient Love"
A Return to Intimacy
Chet Faker, known as Nick Murphy, is back with a new release that resonates deeply. His latest single, “Inefficient Love,” arrives on the heels of July’s “Far Side of the Moon.” This ARIA-winning artist continues to showcase his talent for connecting emotionally through music.
Exploring Unconditional Love
While “Far Side of the Moon” reflected the idea of emotional exhaustion from giving too much, “Inefficient Love” shifts the narrative toward a gentler and more enduring theme: unconditional love, even when situations feel imbalanced. Accompanied by delicate guitar strumming and layered, soft vocals, this track highlights one of Murphy’s most personal performances in years.
The Inspiration Behind the Song
Murphy shared his thoughts on the creative process for this track, stating, “Inefficient Love was one of those songs that beamed in from somewhere. I was sitting on my couch watching a show, picked up my guitar, and played the whole song in about five minutes. It feels old and I love it.”
This moment of spontaneity serves as a reminder of Murphy’s ability to channel music authentically, especially when he’s not complicating the process. This instinct has contributed to his success, beginning with his breakout EP Thinking in Textures in 2012 and continuing with his acclaimed debut album Built on Glass, which won multiple ARIA awards.
A Journey Through His Career
Last year marked the 10th anniversary of Built on Glass, celebrated with a sold-out show at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens and a reissue featuring rare tracks and live recordings.
Following that, “Far Side of the Moon” was the first fresh Chet Faker material since “Something Like This” in 2023. His 2021 album Hotel Surrender also represented a much-anticipated return, tapping back into the textures and soulful vibes that originally defined his sound.
The Significance of "Inefficient Love"
“Inefficient Love” embodies this journey, focusing on genuine emotion over flashy production. Chet Faker has embraced the idea that sometimes the most powerful expression comes from simplicity, allowing the music and lyrics to stand on their own.
