Background on Celina’s brother’s detention in the UAE

Vikrant Jaitly has lived in the UAE since 2016, where he was employed by the MATITI Group, focusing on trading and consultancy services. Specifics regarding his detention remain unclear.

During a recent hearing, the Centre’s lawyer, Nidhi Raman, mentioned to the Delhi High Court that Vikrant had been arrested in connection with an unspecified case, adding that communication with his wife had been established.

In her plea, Celina revealed that despite her brother’s prolonged detention, she had not received essential information regarding his legal standing or welfare. She also claimed that no phone communication had been facilitated for them.

After considering the arguments, the Delhi High Court directed, “The relevant parties must undertake steps to ensure effective legal representation regarding his detention. Additionally, efforts should be made to facilitate contact between the petitioner and her brother. A nodal officer has been appointed.”
