Celebrating 30 Years of Star Awards: Christopher Lee Triumphs with Four Gongs

The Star Awards celebrated its spectacular 30th anniversary, drawing both former and current stars to this highly anticipated event in local Mandarin entertainment.

In honor of this significant milestone, the awards showcased memorable theme songs performed by a live orchestra, a captivating act by Kit Chan, and guest appearances by Hong Kong icons Chow Yun Fat and Sean Lau. The red carpet featured a stunning trophy replica, towering 30 times the size of the actual award.

Guo Liang hosted alongside Chantalle Ng, who took on her first hosting role. This year’s theme, “Walking Through Time Together,” served to reminisce about the impactful moments in drama history that resonate deeply with fans.

The awards night resembled a nostalgic reunion as actors like Huang Shi Nan, Tracer Wong, and Bernard Tan, who have retired from acting, graced the red carpet. Several All-Time Favourite Artistes over the years, including Ann Kok and Fann Wong, also gathered on stage.

This year’s All-Time Favourite Artistes, Yvonne Lim and Pornsak, finally received their well-deserved trophies after winning the Top 10 Favourite Artistes award 10 times over the years.

Pornsak humorously credited the dish soap brand Mama Lemon for aiding his success, attributing his educational achievements to the exposure he gained from their advertisement. Lim, returning to Singapore after a decade in Taiwan, became emotional during her acceptance speech, dedicating her award to her late mother.

Best Supporting Actor winner Chen Hanwei, known for his role in “Unforgivable,” shared a heartfelt moment, reflecting on his late mother during a media interaction. He expressed how he missed sharing his victories with her.

Christopher Lee emerged as the big winner of the night, clinching the Best Actor title for his role in the thriller “Kill Sera Sera,” along with awards for Best Programme Host and Best Entertainment Programme for “Dishing With Chris Lee S2.”

Lee, who celebrated his 30-year career alongside the awards, was presented with a Special Achievement Award for his contributions to local entertainment. Surprised by his Best Actor win, he humorously recalled his wife’s comments from years past about future awards.

In his speech, he expressed gratitude to his wife Fann Wong and the audience, emphasizing their role in his success.

Jessica Hsuan, who starred alongside Lee in “Kill Sera Sera,” took home the Best Actress award for her powerful performance as a grieving mother, calling it her darkest role in years.

Cynthia Koh became emotional upon receiving the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “Hope Afloat,” marking her first win after six nominations. Emerging star Tyler Ten was another highlight, winning both Best Rising Star and Most Popular Rising Star.

As for the popularity categories, it was a big night for Romeo Tan and Carrie Wong, who both received their tenth Top 10 Most Popular Artistes awards, sealing their All-Time Favourite Artist status for next year.

First-time winners Benjamin Tan, Gao Mei Gui, and Richie Koh also celebrated, capturing the moment with “wefies” featuring Chow Yun Fat.
