BTS RM Discusses Marriage, Parenthood, and Societal Pressures on Women

BTS RM Discusses Marriage and Parenthood
BTS member RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, recently shared his thoughts on marriage and parenthood during a live session on Weverse. He candidly spoke about his own childhood, noting that he often “gave his parents a really hard time.” Furthermore, RM addressed the societal pressures faced by women regarding childbirth.
Marriage Thoughts
When it comes to marriage, RM shared, “I’m already thirty-two. If I meet the right person at the right time, maybe I’ll get married. Otherwise, I might just live alone.” He emphasized that societal pressures regarding marriage can be burdensome, particularly for women, who often face expectations about starting families. RM hopes for everyone to live at their own pace.
On Loneliness
He also questioned the motive behind marriage, asking, “If someone can’t endure being alone, will getting married really solve the problem?” He believes that marriage should not be seen as an escape from loneliness and expressed uncertainty about parenthood since he feels he can barely handle himself.
Childhood Recollections
RM reflected on his childhood mischief, admitting that it might be “frustrating” if a child like him were born to him. He acknowledges that his generation views marriage more as a choice than an obligation, a significant shift in societal norms in Korea.
