Bruce Springsteen Unveils Surprise Box Set Featuring 'Electric Nebraska'

## Bruce Springsteen’s Vision for Nebraska

Bruce Springsteen initially envisioned the home-recorded, solo-acoustic tracks that evolved into *Nebraska* as demos for the E Street Band. In 1982, at New York City’s Power Station studio, he and the band recorded versions of most of the songs. Fans have yet to hear any of the *Electric Nebraska* tracks, but that’s about to change with the upcoming box set, *Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition*, set for release on October 17.

### What to Expect from the Box Set

The *Electric Nebraska* disc will feature six tracks performed by the E Street Band, including an electrifying version of “Born in the U.S.A.” This particular track was originally recorded acoustically during the *Nebraska* sessions. Springsteen described it as a three-piece arrangement emphasizing a punk rockabilly vibe: “We threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece,” he shared.

In addition to four discs and a Blu-ray, the box set will include acoustic outtakes, including “Child Bride,” originally transformed into “Working on the Highway.” Notably, the collection will present the never-before-bootlegged tracks “Gun in Every Home” and “On the Prowl,” with the latter played live during Springsteen’s club gigs in 1982.

### Reflecting on Nebraska’s Impact

Springsteen conveyed that performing the album live rekindled his appreciation for its powerful themes. “I think in playing these songs again to be filmed, their weight impressed upon me,” he remarked. He acknowledged that while he has created numerous narrative records, the *Nebraska* songs possess a unique magic.

Max Weinberg, the band’s drummer, recalled the E Street Band’s approach to recording the *Nebraska* material. He noted the influence of Bob Dylan’s *John Wesley Harding*, directing Springsteen toward a more stripped-down sound. “There were also rock versions of [some of] the *Nebraska* material,” Weinberg added.

### Upcoming Biopic: Deliver Me From Nowhere

On October 24, *Deliver Me From Nowhere* will hit theaters, featuring Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen and Jeremy Strong portraying his manager, Jon Landau. This film aims to capture the essence of the *Nebraska* narrative. White emphasized Springsteen’s exploratory mentality during this creative period, stating, “He didn’t really know what he was doing for a while with this record.”
