Brian Jonestown Massacre to Kick Off Their First Australian Tour Post-Brawl

After a turbulent end to their last Australian tour in Melbourne, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is set to return for a triumphant tour across Australia and New Zealand in 2026.

In November 2023, the band’s performance at The Forum took a chaotic turn. Frontman Anton Newcombe and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt found themselves in a heated dispute on stage, and videos soon surfaced showing Newcombe asking Van Kriedt to leave. This incident escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to the cancellation of the remaining tour dates.

Now, the iconic psych-drone band is coming back to share classic tracks and fan favorites, alongside tunes from their 2023 album, The Future Is Your Past, which includes fresh singles like “Makes Me Great” and “Out of Body.”

Recent performances in Europe and the US, highlighted by a notable appearance at Glastonbury, have revealed a rejuvenated BJM. The band continues to navigate their unique musical path, with long-time members Joel Gion and Ricky Maymi enhancing Newcombe’s vision through layers of guitar-driven sound, psychedelic energy, and experimental shoegaze elements.

This upcoming tour will hit major cities including Auckland, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Castlemaine, and Perth throughout March 2026.

Additionally, Stockholm’s psych-rock group Les Big Byrd will provide support for select dates. Having spent the past year touring with BJM in Europe, they’ve received accolades for blending ’60s harmonies with psychedelic krautrock and shoegaze—an excellent match for the BJM sound.

The tour is set to be “art without compromise,” with the promise of new music on the horizon.

Kicking off on March 17th in Auckland, presale tickets will be available at 11 am on Wednesday, September 3rd, followed by general sales beginning at 11 am on Thursday, September 4th.
