Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival in Assam Rescheduled to Honor Zubeen Garg
Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival in Assam Postponed
Guwahati—The 10th edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival has been delayed as Assam mourns the passing of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the festival organizers announced on Thursday.
The festival was originally set to take place from December 4 to 7, but will now be rescheduled for sometime in 2026.
Festival Director Tanushree Hazarika expressed that Garg’s passing is a significant loss, affecting not only Assam but everyone touched by his artistic legacy.
“Zubeen Garg, a talented musician, filmmaker, and humanitarian, was more than just an artist. He represented a heartfelt connection among people throughout the Northeast and beyond,” she reflected.
Hazarika further emphasized, “As a festival that embodies the spirit of our land, it feels inappropriate to celebrate amidst this grief. We have chosen to take a moment to honor his memory.”
The decision to delay the festival was reached after thoughtful discussions among the festival’s core team and advisors, all sharing the profound sense of loss for Zubeen Garg.
Creative Director Pallavi Chumki Barua expressed gratitude to filmmakers and partners for their unwavering support. “While this year is about pausing to reflect, we look towards a stronger comeback in the future, retaining our passion for impactful cinema and cultural exchange,” she stated.
Though this edition was set to be landmark, Technical Director Samujjal Kashyap noted it as a time for introspection instead. The festival team assured full refunds to all filmmakers who submitted entries for BVFF.
