In anticipation of his performance at the State of Origin Game 3 pre-show, Australian country artist Brad Cox has released a compelling new single titled “The High Cost of Living,” featuring renowned US country singer Randy Houser.
This track made its live debut last month at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion during Houser’s concert. The duet poignantly reflects the struggles many face in challenging economic times, showcasing the duo’s deep friendship and shared storytelling spirit.
“Ten dollars for coffee and a fortune to eat / The heating is turned off for now til they work out an easier street / Everyone’s hurting ‘cos times are getting hard / People who once lived the dream are now sleeping out rough in their car,” resonates with listeners confronting the current cost of living crisis.
Latest Album Insights
“The High Cost of Living” is the newest release from Cox’s anticipated fourth studio album, Endemic Intelligence In Multiple Dimensions, set to drop on September 26th via Warner Music Australia. This record also includes previously released singles such as “Sunset Psalm” and “Everything I’ve Got,” promising to be his most sincere and emotionally raw project yet.
Musically, this album demonstrates Cox’s shift away from the polished sound of his earlier works. The artist is embracing bolder production and a more authentic lyrical style, providing an unflinching perspective on life and the surrounding world — a transition that feels both timely and deeply personal.
Embracing Growth
This new direction reflects a broader sonic palette, incorporating elements from synth-pop, rock, and minimalist ballads, alongside traditional country sounds. “I believe I’ve grown as a songwriter and as a person,” Cox remarked. “I’m 30 now. It’s a time for clarity and understanding life a bit better.”
Intimate Tour Announcements
To celebrate his upcoming album, Cox is returning to his roots with a series of intimate shows across Brisbane, Melbourne, and Newcastle. These performances are a nod to the smaller venues where he initially honed his craft—places that played a significant role in shaping his identity as an artist. Early shows in Brisbane and Newcastle quickly sold out, leading to added dates in both locations.
His tour follows recent live appearances at events like Yours & Owls, Meatstock, and Bluesfest, along with a notable support role for Houser in Sydney. Fans in New Zealand can also look forward to shows scheduled for November.
Notable Achievements
Since his emergence in 2018 with his self-titled debut, the Jindabyne native has gained a reputation for genuine songwriting and a relatable persona. His first album garnered two Golden Guitar nominations, while his follow-up, My Mind’s Projection, topped the ARIA Australian Country Album Chart and earned a nomination for Country Song of the Year with “Give Me Tonight.”
His third release, ACRES, achieved even greater success, reaching No. 1 on the ARIA Country Charts and securing a Top Selling Country Album Golden Guitar in 2024. The album also received an ARIA nomination for Best Country Album.
Now, as he ventures into broader genre territories with a sound that’s looser, louder, and more expansive, Cox is fully committed to authenticity—and inviting his fans to join him on this journey.
